What is Mechanical Engineering?

Think about all the things you did today. Did you turn on a light, open a door, turn on a faucet, use an elevator, ride in a bus or car, or use a computer? Can you believe every one of these activities are influenced a mechanical engineer. They have influenced all areas of product design, from common items like athletic shoes, microwave ovens and washing machines to commercial and industrial products like automobiles, aircraft, and industrial robots. Mechanical engineering deals with a wide variety of scientific and technological challenges, which include design and manufacturing, energy production and conversion control and automation, computer simulation and many more. It is the responsibility of mechanical engineers to design machines that are safe, reliable, and efficient.
